Ever wonder how strong dogs really are?
Come and see some of the strongest dogs in Alaska show off their athletic abilities.
Dogs are harnessed to a 200 pound sled during the winter months, or a 320 pound wheeled cart during the other months. The dogs have 60 seconds to pull 25 feet, then weight is added in 120 pound increments until a dog is able to out pull the rest of the dog competitors in their weight class.
These events are open to all breeds over 25 pounds. The dog's age must be 1-10 years old. Four weight divisions are offered.
25-60 lbs, 60-90 lbs, 90-125 lbs, and 125 lbs and over.
All dogs must be current on vaccinations.
Loaner harnesses are available at events and practices.
We encourage beginner dogs and handlers of all ages to come out and pull. For help with training or for training tips please see the 'contact us' page.
Interior Freight Dog Association (IFDA)
also offers educational presentations to local Elementary
Schools within the North Star Borough. These events are hosted by the volunteer members to promote dog safety and the history of weight pulling (freight pulling) in Alaska. Please see the Education page for further information.
IFDA is a 501(c)(3) registered IRS non-profit charity and Alaska registered non-profit charity.
IFDA also supports "Wish Upon The North Star" (WUNS). $1.00 of each dogs entery fee, per event is donated to this Alaska based organization to assist in making wishes come true for the children with life-threatening illnesses or injuries within Alaska.
